The Wall Street Journal suggested on Friday that a new round of negotiations between the United States and Iran is likely, and while it revealed that two countries have been nominated to host the round, it indicated that the negotiations led by Pakistan have reached a dead end.
The American newspaper quoted mediators as saying that “Türkiye and Egypt are considering new locations for talks between Washington and Tehran,” predicting that “the next round of negotiations may be held in Doha or Istanbul.”
The newspaper noted that “Iran informed the mediators that it is not prepared to meet with the Americans in Islamabad in the coming days,” indicating that “the round of negotiations led by Pakistan has reached a dead end.”
She added that “Iran informed the mediators that Washington’s demands were unacceptable.”
On Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that targeting civilian bridges would not force Iranians to surrender, following the targeting of the B-1 bridge in the city of Karaj in the west of the country.
US President Donald Trump wrote a post on his Truth Social account yesterday, Thursday, which read: “Iran’s biggest bridge is collapsing and will never be used again – and more are coming! It is time for Iran to make a deal before it is too late and before nothing remains of what could have been a great nation.”
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had previously confirmed that his country had been subjected to “two acts of aggression” during the negotiation period, pointing to the continued targeting of energy infrastructure despite American promises, and warning of Israel’s efforts to expand the scope of the war in the region.
These moves come amid escalating regional tensions related to Iran, as several international and regional parties intensify their diplomatic efforts to contain the crisis and prevent it from sliding into a wider confrontation that threatens the stability of the region.
