US forces begin third phase of expanding airstrips at Al-Hareer base

An informed source confirmed today, Wednesday, that the American forces have begun the third phase of expanding the airstrips at the Harir base near Erbil.
The source said in an interview with Al-Maalouma, “The American forces stationed at the Harir base near Erbil have begun the third phase of the airstrip expansion project.”
He added, “The project, which is being adopted by the Ministry of Defense, aims to create flexibility in receiving large military aircraft at the Harir base, which is intended to be transformed into a main headquarters in the Middle East due to its geographical location.”
He pointed out that “the project is managed by multinational companies with other development facilities, which means that the file of withdrawal and exit of forces is not on track in light of the ongoing expansion projects being implemented for some sectors.”
It is noteworthy that Al-Harir is the second most important military base in which American forces are deployed in Iraq. It is located near Erbil and includes hundreds of soldiers.
