United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support, Atul Khare, affirmed on Sunday that Iraq is experiencing an advanced level of security, openness, and urban development. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani affirmed Iraq’s great interest in cooperating with the United Nations.
Al-Sudani’s office said in a statement received by the Mail that “Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani received the Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support, Atul Khare, who conveyed to Al-Sudani the greetings of the Secretary-General of the Organization, António Guterres, and confirmed his attendance at the Arab Summit that Baghdad will host next month.”
He added that “the meeting discussed the progress of preparations and arrangements for the conclusion of the UNAMI mission in Iraq, scheduled for August of next year. The Prime Minister affirmed Iraq’s great interest in cooperating with the United Nations, expressing his appreciation for all the assistance it has provided to Iraq and the Iraqi people since the 2005 elections until today.”
According to the statement, Al-Sudani praised the “transparent and smooth coordination in the process of ending the UNAMI mission, which represents the beginning of a new chapter of cooperation across various sectors, fields, and programs with the international organization.”
For his part, Kahari explained that “Iraq today is experiencing an advanced level of security, openness, and urban development, which is being matched by parallel progress in the areas of political stability, positive growth in economic development, and the fulfillment of the requirements of successive electoral processes, ensuring their success.”
