UN - 25 organizations will continue to operate in Iraq after UNAMI endsThe UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Iraq, Mohammed Hassan, announced on Thursday that 25 organizations will continue their work in Iraq after the end of the UNAMI mission. Hassan told the official agency that “only the UNAMI mission will end its work, while the United Nations will continue its work in Iraq as long as Iraq so desires.”

He added, “The specialized organizations and agencies, numbering more than 25, will continue their presence in Iraq to serve Iraqis and ensure a safe path toward openness, democracy, and development in Iraq and for Iraqis.”

He also pointed out that “Iraq is a founding country of the United Nations, and deserves all sacrifices for the sake of its ancient, proud, and loyal people.”

He added, “We hope that Iraq will continue to make progress, and there are benefits that the Iraqi citizen looks forward to seeing in the areas of development, the economy, education, and services.” He called on Iraqis to “be patient and give their leaders the opportunity to provide all of this, as they are capable of achieving it.”
