The former MP Abdul Khaliq al-Azzawi confirmed on Saturday that it is very likely that Sunni forces will put forward more than one candidate for the position of Speaker of Parliament in the first session of the new parliamentary term. Speaking to Al-Maalomah , al -Azzawi said, “The decision regarding the Sunni forces presenting a consensus candidate for Speaker of Parliament has not yet been finalized, and efforts are still underway in this direction.” He noted that “it is very likely that two candidates will be put forward for this position in the first session of the sixth parliamentary term.”
He added, “If two candidates are put forward, the decision will be made within Parliament through a vote.” He pointed out that “all possibilities are open, and it is impossible to predict the identity of the next Speaker of Parliament at this time.”
He explained that “the next few days may witness an agreement among the Sunni forces to present a single candidate for this position, but this has not yet been definitively decided.”
