Mark Savaya, President Donald Trump’s envoy to Iraq, renewed the United States’ support for “legitimate” Iraqi security institutions, noting that the partnership between the two sides has made significant progress over the past years.
Savaya wrote in a blog post on X: “The United States has always supported legitimate security institutions in Iraq… from joint efforts to defeat ISIS to countering malign influence and promoting regional stability.”
The US envoy confirmed that real progress had been made in this area, stressing that there was an urgent need for “fundamental reforms”.
He continued: “American companies, which have provided billions of dollars in equipment and top-notch support, remain key partners in strengthening Iraq’s security and sovereignty.”
