US President Donald Trump declared on Thursday that US forces would take full control of oil and gas facilities in Iran, in the most serious threat yet amid signs of a broader military escalation in the Gulf region.
Trump stated in a post on Truth Social that “America will strike Iran hard tonight.” This threat comes as Washington and Tehran have been exchanging military strikes for the past two days, following the downing of a US Apache attack helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz, an incident for which Washington holds Iran fully responsible.
The US president added that his country’s forces “will soon seize Kharg Island and other Iranian energy facilities,” comparing the upcoming actions against Tehran to what happened previously with Venezuela.
