US President Donald Trump revealed on Tuesday evening that his administration is working to include Iran and the Lebanese Hezbollah in the sanctions bill imposed on Russia.
During his meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi at the White House, Trump said: “There was fear of Iran in the region, and now the countries of the Middle East have gotten rid of a dominant entity.”
He added that the United States would add Iran and the Lebanese Hezbollah to the draft “sanctions law” against Russia.
Trump explained: “I do not regret lifting the naval blockade or granting sanctions waivers to Iran, and I gave them a chance to reach an agreement.”
He indicated that the Iranians fired the first shot, and we responded in kind.
The US president continued: “We welcome investments in the United States in exchange for providing protection for the Strait of Hormuz instead of the fees that I don’t like,” noting that his reversal on imposing fees on passage through the Strait of Hormuz came after contacts from countries in the region in exchange for investments.
Earlier on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump announced that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open to international shipping, with the exception of Iranian vessels, while confirming a complete blockade on ships heading to or departing from Iranian ports.
Trump stated in a press conference that his administration had decided to replace 20% of the tariffs with trade and investment deals that the Gulf states would conclude with the United States, as part of strengthening economic partnerships between the two sides .
