On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump reaffirmed his country’s complete control over the Strait of Hormuz, while also indicating that Iran is unable to do anything about it.
Trump stated in a post on the Truth Social platform, which was monitored by Shafaq News Agency, that “everyone calls our naval blockade the ‘Wall of Steel,’ and I believe we will maintain this control.”
He pointed out that “Iran has no navy, no air force, their remaining soldiers are not being paid, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard is exhausted and fleeing, their leadership is unstable, at best they have no money, their country is in a deplorable state.”
He added, “All they have is fake news and 300% inflation, and the situation is getting worse. Iran is all talk and no action; it is no longer the tyrant of the Middle East.”
In the latest tally of the naval blockade on Iran, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Tuesday evening that it had diverted 55 commercial vessels that attempted to breach the blockade, disabled 3 violating vessels, and stopped 2 vessels, since the resumption of the naval blockade on Iran on July 14.
In mid-June, the United States diverted 194 ships and disabled 9 ships in the first round of the blockade.
Control of the strait, a transit route for about one-fifth of the world’s oil, has become a major point of contention in negotiations aimed at de-escalating tensions with Iran.
With negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement to reopen the waterway stalled for several days, President Donald Trump returned to economic pressure in the form of US sanctions and a blockade.
