US President Donald Trump revealed that he discussed with his administration carrying out a military operation inside Iran to seize its stockpile of highly enriched uranium.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said that carrying out the mission is not easy, explaining that Iranian uranium is located in fortified sites and requires significant equipment to handle.
He added: “Initially we thought about doing it, but it requires staying there for two weeks and a lot of equipment.”
He stressed that the United States is closely monitoring Iranian nuclear sites, noting that any attempt to move or approach nuclear materials will be tracked.
At the same time, Trump issued a warning to Tehran, saying that any attack targeting American soldiers could lead to a resumption of military operations.
He continued: “If American soldiers are killed, that will justify a return to war. Whether it’s an agreement or war… we will prevail.”
When asked about the chances of reaching an agreement with Iran, Trump said the United States would emerge victorious either way, adding that “whether there is a deal or war, we will win.”
He also indicated that Hezbollah’s continued firing despite the ceasefire agreement is linked to the Iranian role in the region, as he put it.
Negotiations between Washington and Tehran continue amid disagreements over Iranian funds frozen abroad.
American media reports indicate that Iran is demanding immediate financial compensation of $12 billion upon signing any preliminary agreement, while Washington prefers to link the release of funds to Tehran’s compliance with the terms of the agreement.
Iran’s frozen assets abroad are estimated at around $100 billion, and the US administration considers them one of the most important bargaining chips used in the ongoing negotiations regarding the Iranian nuclear program.
