Trump threatens military intervention in Iran to protect protesters

On Friday, US President Donald Trump threatened military intervention in Iran to protect protesters demonstrating against the deteriorating economic and living conditions in the country.
Trump said in a post on Truth Social: “If Iran shoots and violently kills peaceful protesters, as they have done before, the United States of America will come to their aid.”
Trump added: “We are on high alert and ready to act.”
The protests over living conditions in Iran continue, spreading to smaller cities and with the return of nighttime demonstrations, while the government tries to contain the anger, in the face of escalating judicial and security crackdowns.
This coincided with reports of deaths in several cities, in what is considered the largest escalation in three years against the backdrop of rising inflation, currency deterioration and rising prices.
According to economic data, the Iranian rial lost about half its value against the dollar during 2025, and inflation reached 42.5 percent in December.
These protests are the largest since 2022, following the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody.
