US President Donald Trump asserted on Sunday that the selection of Iran’s new Supreme Leader must be done with his approval.
Trump told ABC News: “The new leader in Iran must get our approval to make sure we don’t have to come back every 10 years.”
He added: “The new Supreme Leader in Iran will not last long if he does not obtain our approval.”
Regarding sending special forces to seize uranium in Iran, Trump said: Everything is on the table.
He asserted that “Iran was planning to take over the entire Middle East and was about to launch an attack for that purpose,” indicating that “I would agree to the selection of a new leader even if he had ties to the previous regime, and there are many qualified candidates.”
He continued, “I don’t want people to have to go back in 5 years and repeat the same thing and allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon.”
