US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that the Strait of Hormuz will be fully reopened by next Friday, stressing that the strait will be opened without imposing any fees.
Speaking on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Paris, Trump said, “Iran will not have a nuclear weapon, and the Strait of Hormuz will be opened without any fees even after the 60-day period ends,” adding that “the new relationship with Iran has become normal, and things will move forward quickly in the next phase.”
He added that “Iran wants to get this done and return to normal business,” noting that “the second phase of the nuclear agreement with Iran is expected to be completed quickly.”
The US president confirmed that “the full text of the Iranian agreement will be published during an official session,” announcing his intention to hold a press conference later to present the details of the agreement and related developments.
Trump continued: “I say to those who doubt the memorandum of understanding that the agreement is taking shape very well,” noting that he will send the agreement with Iran to Congress for review.
An informed Iranian source revealed on Monday that the process of reopening the Strait of Hormuz will begin after the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States, scheduled for next Friday, noting that disagreements over some clauses continued until the last moments before the announcement of the agreement.
It is worth noting that the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stressed yesterday, Monday, the need for the agreement between the United States and Iran to allow for the immediate “reopening” of the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron affirmed that the G7 would do its utmost to ensure the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, stressing the need to restore this strategic waterway without transit fees.
