President Miguel Diaz-Canel affirmed that his country is open to holding talks with the United States on various issues, provided that they take place without any preconditions, including those related to the political system in Cuba.
Diaz-Canel said in official statements that “Havana is interested in dialogue and discussing all issues, but rejects any demands related to changing the political system, stressing that his country does not impose similar conditions on the United States.”
He added that “only the Cuban people are authorized to determine the fate of the country’s political leadership,” stressing that “if the people decide that he should not remain in office, he will comply with their will, but without any external interference in this decision.”
The Cuban president also renewed his criticism of US policies toward his country, asserting that Washington has no right to impose demands on Cuba or interfere in its internal affairs, and stating that “the responsibility for the current tensions lies with the US administration.”
