US President Donald Trump said in press statements on Thursday evening that Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar is so bad she should be impeached.
“She’s from Somalia, isn’t she?” Trump added in response to a reporter’s question. “These people from countries that have nothing are trying to come and tell us how to run our country.”
“She must be isolated, and it must be done quickly,” the US president continued.
On Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives failed to pass a resolution to reprimand Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) for her comments and social media retweets regarding the death of Charlie Kirk.
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) introduced the resolution under special rules on Monday, expediting its vote in the House.
For her part, House Minority Leader Katherine Clark (D-MA) introduced a motion to postpone, or reject, the resolution on Wednesday.
The motion to postpone the vote passed by a vote of 214 to 213, with four Republicans — Reps. Mike Flood (Nebraska), Jeff Hurd (Colorado), Tom McClintock (California), and Corey Mills (Florida) — voting with the Democrats.
The vote came after a heated exchange of accusations between Ilhan Omar and Nancy Mace on social media.
