US President Donald Trump suggested on Saturday that Iran was behind the attack on the East-West pipeline in Saudi Arabia, referring to the attack that Riyadh said the pipeline was targeted by drones coming from Iraq.
According to US media, Trump described the Saudi Crown Prince as a “good friend” of his, stressing that “everything will be fine.”
Regarding the Houthi group, Trump said, “The Houthis do not want to fight against us.”
He added that “Iran will not possess a nuclear weapon,” noting that the war with it would end “very soon.”
Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, the US president asserted that his country “has complete control” over the strait, which is one of the most important maritime routes for global oil and energy traffic.
Saudi Arabia announced on Friday that the East-West pipeline in the Riyadh and Medina regions was targeted by several drones coming from Iraq, noting that it “chose not to respond at this stage, and to support the efforts of the Iraqi government.”
In Baghdad, Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi ordered an investigation into the Maysan Operations Command, after it was proven that the attacks targeting Saudi Arabia originated from the province. He also decided to dismiss the commander of the Maysan Operations and close two border crossings.
For their part, the armed factions in Iraq denied earlier on Saturday their involvement in targeting Saudi energy facilities, and while they stressed that this was “an honor they do not claim,” they expressed their readiness to participate in any government investigation committee .
