Trump hints at possible visit to “Free Iran” before the end of his term

On Monday, US President Donald Trump hinted at his intention to visit the Iranian capital, Tehran, before the end of his term, despite his previous threats to take military action against it.
President Trump’s hint came amid ongoing tension and a war of words between Iran and the United States, as he posted some references to Iran on his “Truth Social” platform.
The US president attached a post containing a statement by Mark Thiessen, an American journalist on a satellite channel, in which the latter predicted that Donald Trump would visit what he described as “Free Iran,” “Free Cuba,” and “Free Venezuela” before the end of his term.
The White House announced last Thursday that President Trump and his team are closely monitoring developments in Iran, and stressed that “all options regarding Tehran remain on the table.”
White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt told a press conference that Trump had informed Iranian authorities that “continuing to repress and kill protesters will have serious consequences,” adding that “US President Donald Trump was aware of the suspension of 800 executions that were scheduled to take place yesterday in Iran.”
A report released last Thursday revealed that three Arab countries persuaded US President Donald Trump to avoid launching an attack on Iran.
A source told American media that “Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Oman asked Trump to give Iran a chance,” as he put it.
Protests erupted in Iran in late December 2025, against the backdrop of the decline in the value of the local currency, the Iranian Toman. Demonstrations in several cities turned into clashes with the police, amid anti-regime chants, resulting in deaths and injuries on both the security forces and the protesters.
On January 12, Iranian authorities announced that they had brought the situation under control, accusing America and Israel of being “behind the unrest.”
For his part, US President Donald Trump called on the protesters last Tuesday to continue their actions and “take control of the institutions of power,” asserting via his “Truth Social” platform that “help is on the way,” as he put it.
Trump also warned of taking strong action if Iran carried out executions of protesters, while noting that he had not seen reports of such executions taking place.
