US President Donald Trump described Monday’s announcement as a “historic dawn for the future of the Middle East” and the beginning of a new era of peace and security.

“Today is a historic dawn for the future of the Middle East,” Trump said in a speech before the Knesset. “We have ended a tragic war and launched a new path to lasting peace.”

He added, “Like what was achieved in the United States, today is a golden age for Israel and the entire Middle East. We will witness an era of cooperation and prosperity after years of conflict and suffering.”

Trump noted that the collective efforts of Arab and Islamic countries were crucial in reaching an agreement to release the hostages, adding, “I thank all the Arab and Islamic countries that united to pressure Hamas to release the hostages. Today proves that unity is stronger than any conflict.”

He continued that the United States is working to close open conflicts around the world, adding, “We have ended eight wars in eight months, and I will add this war to the list with the safe return of the hostages to their homes.”

During his speech, the US President emphasized his desire to permanently end the wars, saying, “We have provided many of these weapons to Israel. Netanyahu has repeatedly called me and asked for all kinds of weapons, and you have used them wisely.” He explained, “The United States joins you, the people of Israel, in these two promises: we will not forget and we will not allow a repeat of October 7.”

Trump explained, “We were able to put an end to the most dangerous country in the world and completely end its nuclear program,” noting that “Iran has suffered a devastating blow, and it would be wonderful to conclude a peace agreement with the Iranians.”

He concluded his remarks by saying, “In Lebanon, Hezbollah has been destroyed, and we support the Lebanese president in disarming the party and building a state that lives in peace with its neighbors. Israel’s security will no longer be threatened in any way after Hamas’s disarmament,” emphasizing that “the entire region has agreed to a plan to disarm Hamas.”

Trump’s speech was preceded by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s praise of the US president’s decisive role in brokering the peace agreement in the Gaza Strip.
