Trump decides to revoke US citizenship from “fraudsters”

The US administration intends to revoke the citizenship of any immigrant who holds the nationality of Somalia or any other country if they are convicted of defrauding citizens in the United States, according to President Trump.
“We will also revoke the citizenship of any immigrant who is a citizen of Somalia or any other country if they are convicted of defrauding our citizens,” Trump said in a speech to the Detroit Economic Club.
Earlier, The New York Times revealed, based on internal guidance it obtained, that the administration of US President Donald Trump is preparing for an unprecedented escalation in the immigration issue.
After arrests, deportations, and voluntary departures that led to 2.5 million immigrants leaving the United States, according to the Department of Homeland Security, it was the turn of those who obtained American citizenship.
According to documents obtained by the New York Times from the offices of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), some naturalized Americans will have their citizenship revoked.
These guidelines require field offices to provide the Immigration Litigation Office with between 100 and 200 citizenship revocation cases per month during fiscal year 2026.
Experts have described the move as a huge escalation compared to previous years. Since 2017, only about 120 cases have been filed, according to the Ministry of Justice.
According to federal law, citizenship can only be revoked in limited cases, most notably fraud when applying for citizenship or submitting false or misleading documents or statements.
