The Ministry of Transport has begun preparing a mechanism to train and qualify a specialized team from the ports to manage the operation and expansion policies of the Grand Faw Port.
The Director of the Ministry’s Media Office, Mitham Al-Safi, told the official newspaper, “The Ministry of Transport has begun preparing a mechanism to train and qualify port staff with the aim of forming a specialized team to undertake the task of managing the operation and expansion policies of the Grand Faw Port, in coordination with the Ministry of Planning, in preparation for the first phase of operating the port during the coming year.”
He added that “the port project’s operating policy will be adopted according to international standards and the best specifications, which requires a team trained in the latest methods and systems to manage this giant project, noting that after completing the excavation works and connecting the immersed tunnel manufacturing basin with the Zubair Canal, the process of completing the road from Al-Faw Port towards Safwan City via the immersed tunnel has begun.”
Al-Safi added, “The road will enter through two bridges, the completion rates of which exceed 98 percent, and the completion rates of the quay structures for the container terminal have reached 100 percent.”
He pointed out that “the excavation works in the port’s navigation channel have achieved advanced completion rates of more than 77 percent, and it is hoped to be completed during the coming year, coinciding with the completion of the first phase of the launch of the Grand Faw Port project.”
He pointed out that “the coming period will witness the launch of the implementation of the port’s infrastructure projects within the first phase, according to the international specifications that the ministry seeks to adopt in all the steps of implementing the port, as it is the gateway to economic growth for the country and the region during the coming phase and the most modern trade corridor in the world.”
