Member of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Saadoun, confirmed today, Wednesday, that Parliament is moving towards passing the work of the legislative term for a period of one month, while he confirmed that all parliamentary committees agreed to the extension in order to vote on the general budget.
Saadoun said in an interview with the Maalouma Agency, “The issue of voting on a new speaker of parliament will be discussed during the extension,” pointing out that “most of the political blocs will not continue the delay in voting on the 2024 general budget.”
He continued, “The House of Representatives will be deprived of the legislative recess for this semester after issuing the decision to extend the period of Parliament’s work,” noting that “all parliamentary committees agreed to the extension in order to vote on the general budget.”
The member of the House of Representatives concluded his speech: “The inability of the parliamentary political forces to amend the bylaws of the House of Representatives requires ending the presidency file during the upcoming sessions.”
The House of Representatives is awaiting the sending of the general budget schedules for the current year from the government after five months have passed, in addition to the continued failure to select a replacement for Al-Halbousi, who was expelled by a judicial decision, which has affected, in one way or another, the legislation of laws and voting on some decisions as a result of the parliamentary blocs’ lack of agreement among themselves.
