Abdul Hamid Raed al-Dulaimi, a member of the Azm Alliance, confirmed on Thursday that three prominent Sunni leaders supported the complaint filed by the alliance’s leader, Muthanna al-Samarrai, with the judiciary and the High Electoral Commission, demanding the removal of the leader of the Progress Alliance, Mohammed al-Halbousi, over allegations of fraud.
Al-Dulaimi told Al-Maalouma, “The leaders supporting the coalition are former Defense Minister Khaled al-Obeidi, former Salah al-Din Governor Ahmed al-Jubouri, and former MP Jamal al-Karbouli. He indicated that they are seeking to form a political front to remove al-Halbousi, and to present evidence related to forgery and espionage cases, in addition to cases related to the theft of state lands and tampering with reconstruction projects.”
He added, “Sunni leaders from the provinces of Mosul, Salah al-Din, Diyala, and Kirkuk have expressed their willingness to submit similar complaints to the relevant authorities.”
