{Baghdad: Al Furat News} The World Bank announced its readiness to support the efforts of the Iraqi government in the face of the financial crisis and the Corona pandemic.
This came during the Minister of Planning, Khaled Battal Al-Najem, today, Wednesday, meeting with the World Bank and a number of representatives of donor countries through a closed electronic circuit.
A statement of the ministry, which received {Al Furat News} a copy of it, said that “during the meeting, they discussed ways to take advantage of the outcomes of the Kuwait Donors Conference in 2018 to support the efforts of the Iraqi government to confront the Corona pandemic in light of the financial crisis facing Iraq.”
The star stressed during the meeting, “the need to cooperate and work quickly to strengthen the capacities of health response in the framework of facing the threat of the virus.”
For his part, Saruj Jah, head of the World Bank mission to the Middle East and North Africa, affirmed, “The readiness of the World Bank, to increase the level of joint cooperation with Iraq, and to support the efforts of the Iraqi government in facing the financial crisis and the Corona pandemic, as well as continuing to support reconstruction.”
“The two sides also affirmed during the meeting the continuation of work on strengthening public financial management, developing digital capabilities and skills in the education sector, emphasizing investment in human capital, developing social protection systems, and increasing job opportunities.”
He continued, “The joint talks also touched on the importance of economic diversification and growth in partnership with the private sector through working to reform trade and investment policies and develop the financial sector.”
