Iran intends to limit the passage of more than ten ships through the Strait of Hormuz, with transit fees potentially reaching $2 million for supertankers, according to The Wall Street Journal. The newspaper reported that “as part of the ceasefire agreement reached with the United States this month, Iran informed mediators that it would limit the number of ships passing through (the Strait of Hormuz) to about ten ships per day and would impose fees… The fees could reach $2 million for supertankers.”
According to the Wall Street Journal, ship owners from several countries are negotiating with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps regarding passage through the Strait of Hormuz. The newspaper also noted that the few ships that do cross the strait must travel through designated routes and obtain the necessary permits.
