Shafaq News/ The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Baghdad, “Tsui Wei”, announced on Sunday that the volume of trade exchange between his country and Iraq reached 50 billion dollars in the past year 2024.
“Wei” said in a press conference held in the capital Baghdad, attended by Shafaq News Agency correspondent, that scientific cooperation between China and Iraq has achieved fruitful results, and according to the figures, the volume of trade exchange last year reached 50 billion US dollars and recorded a growth of 10%, adding, “We feel that this number has progressed smoothly.”
He added that cooperation between China and Iraq is not limited to one field, but rather includes all fields, including energy, electricity, transportation, school projects, and other fields.
The ambassador also said, “We are discussing the field of digital, communications and other fields, and we are keen to deepen the areas between China and Iraq.”
He stated that cooperation between the two countries is in the interest of mutual gain, and will contribute to the reconstruction, economy and strengthening industry for the Iraqi people.
Regarding dealing in the local Chinese currency, Cui Wei said that cooperation in the yuan between Iraq and China is not related to other countries. We are developing relations with Iraq, and as for the Iraqi side, it is developing its relations with foreign countries.
He explained that the use of the yuan in trade exchange between Iraq and China came to meet a need between the two countries, and in order to reduce the costs of exports and imports, considering that it is better to use local currencies instead of using foreign currencies, and that the use of the currency between the two countries is still in the initial stage.
The Chinese ambassador pointed out that “in recent years we have made great efforts to facilitate Iraqi citizens obtaining an entry visa.”
He continued, saying, “Last year, we reduced fees, facilitated the issuance of documents, and opened a consulate in Erbil to facilitate obtaining visas,” noting that the consulate in Basra will work in the future to open the door to visas.”
