The Victory Coalition announced on Sunday that its former leader, Haider al-Abadi, is among the names being considered for the position of next prime minister, while it has not yet announced its final position.
Coalition spokesman Salam al-Zubaidi told Al-Maalomah that “the inclusion of al-Abadi’s name was not at his request or through a direct nomination from the Victory Coalition, but rather came at the request of some forces within the Coordination Framework.”
He pointed out that “Al-Abadi will not accept the position if it is conditional or restricted by any obligations imposed by the political parties.”
Coordination Committee leader, MP Amer Al-Fayez, had previously confirmed that the number of candidates for the position of Prime Minister had reached 30, reflecting the potential level of competition for the post.
