US Treasury Secretary Scott Bissett asserted on Thursday that Iran’s economic isolation would be “the greatest in history,” as he put it.
Bisent continued, in press statements followed by Shafaq News Agency: “It is time for allies and the rest of the world to stop dealing with the Iranian regime.”
Bisent added that “America controls the Strait of Hormuz, and large quantities of oil pass through the strait,” indicating that “we will impose the harshest sanctions on Iran, and they will lead to the collapse of the regime.”
Trump had said in a post on the Truth Social platform: “No one gave Iran a better chance than me to make a deal. But, very unfortunately for them, they failed to take advantage of it. Therefore, today I am announcing the most crushing economic action ever taken against any country! This will be an economic war and isolation on an unprecedented scale.”
Trump threatened countries that allow their financial institutions, companies, airports, or government agencies to provide any kind of support to Iran with “tremendous economic consequences,” calling for a halt to “oil smuggling, barter lines, money transfers, exchange bureaus, ship registries, and front companies.”
Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday afternoon that the US administration, those who devised the sanctions plans, and those who implement them must “bear the consequences.”
