US Treasury Secretary Scott Bisent revealed on Thursday that a trade agreement between the United States and China is being finalized and is expected to be signed as early as next week.
“We finalized the Kuala Lumpur Agreement last night, and we expect to exchange signatures early next week,” Bessent said on Fox Business’s morning show.
The minister added that a key part of the agreement is China’s large-scale purchases of American agricultural products, stressing: “I am announcing this for the first time on your program: we are talking about the enormous quantities of agricultural purchases that Beijing intends to make under this agreement.”
Regarding the government shutdown, the US Treasury Secretary indicated that US economic growth may slow down under the government shutdown, noting that it is difficult to predict such forecasts.
During the interview with the American network “Fox Business,” Bessent pointed out that “it is very difficult to predict that (the slowdown in the growth of the American economy), but we know that it will be less.”
US Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna stated on October 26 that the US government shutdown could continue until the end of November.
Luna told US media outlets, commenting on the closure: “I learned that we may not be able to return until after Thanksgiving (on November 27).”
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also stated that US military payrolls could stop by November 15 if the US government shutdown continues.
