US Treasury Secretary Scott Besent predicted on Sunday that Iran would resort to shutting down its oil facilities within the next week, as storage tanks fill up as a result of the US naval blockade.
Besent told Fox News that “Iran is not getting much in return for its attempts to impose fees on ships,” adding that “oil prices will drop significantly after the conflict ends.”
He added that “the United States is recording a record level of energy exports,” noting that it is “the biggest winner in the energy markets.”
On Sunday, the ship-tracking website TankerTrackers reported that a giant Iranian oil tanker had successfully evaded the US naval blockade and arrived in Indonesian waters carrying a huge shipment of crude oil.
The Iranian parliament revealed on Saturday that it had prepared a draft law to manage the Strait of Hormuz, taking into account international laws and the rights of neighboring countries, while indicating that ship traffic in the vital strait would not return to what it was before the war.
