The US military launched a search and rescue operation on Friday after a fighter jet was shot down in Iran, while search teams were deployed in Iraq and Syria.
The New York Times quoted officials as saying that the search and rescue operation was launched to reach the survivors of the downed plane before Iran could reach them.
Officials added that search and rescue teams are deployed in places including Iraq and Syria.
The Revolutionary Guard announced on Friday afternoon that it had shot down an American fighter jet over Markazi province in the center of the country, and media outlets quickly reported that military aircraft were flying in search of the missing pilot.
In addition to the American aircraft in Iran searching for the pilot, Iranian helicopters flew to search for the American pilot for the purpose of capturing him. Tasnim News Agency also reported that armed men from the tribes and villages were searching for possible soldiers in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad.
