CBS News, citing informed sources, reported on Saturday that the FBI is considering a staged arrest of former CIA Director James Comey and parading him before the media.
According to the network, “This comes after Comey was formally charged with lying and obstructing justice, which carries a possible penalty of up to five years in prison.”
She confirmed that “the FBI is working to assemble a team of arresting agents, fully equipped with bulletproof vests, to ensure the operation is carried out before Comey’s court appearance on Thursday.”
The US Department of Justice had previously announced that Comey faced a sentence of up to five years in prison, while Comey maintained his innocence and was prepared to prove it in court.
Comey, along with former CIA Director John Brennan, is under criminal investigation for their roles in publishing allegations about Donald Trump’s ties to Russia in 2016, which later became a controversial topic and were later denied.
The US Justice Department had previously confirmed in its April 2019 report that there was no evidence of collusion between Trump and Russia, while in July 2025, Trump described the dissemination of false information about Russian interference as the “crime of the century.”
Both Trump and the Russian government have repeatedly denied these allegations of illegal contacts or attempts to influence the election.
