The US Department of Energy indicated on Tuesday that the Strait of Hormuz is likely to remain closed throughout this month, with navigation resuming in June.
The ministry said in a press statement: “We expect navigation in the Strait of Hormuz to return to pre-war levels later this year, with a gradual resumption starting in June.”
The ministry noted that “we assume the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until late May.”
The US Central Command announced earlier on Tuesday that it had diverted 65 commercial vessels since the start of the embargo on Iran, while confirming that it had disabled four vessels that “did not comply” with the imposed measures.
These developments come amid escalating military and political tensions in the Strait of Hormuz region, coinciding with continued US and Iranian naval activity in the area.
It is noted that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced on Tuesday morning the expansion of the Strait of Hormuz area to include new areas on the Iranian coasts and islands.
