A report by the American website “Fox News” revealed the start of a gradual reduction of the American military mission in Iraq, confirming that Washington has begun withdrawing its forces in accordance with an agreement with Baghdad.
The report stated that “the US military mission in Iraq is gradually being reduced, but it has not yet ended,” indicating that “Washington has begun withdrawing its forces under an agreement with Baghdad to transfer security responsibility in the fight against ISIS to the Iraqi security forces.”
The report added that “the international coalition intends to reduce its presence by 20% of its remaining forces, with the remainder concentrated in the Kurdistan region in preparation for ending the mission by next September.”
He noted that “US forces still retain the authority to defend themselves and strike ISIS targets should there be any signs of the organization’s resurgence.”
