United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned of the risk of an “imminent financial collapse” that the organization could face if member states continue to delay paying their financial contributions.
Guterres said the organization “faces imminent disaster if the delay in fulfilling financial obligations continues,” noting that the debts owed by member states to the United Nations have already reached $1.6 billion, and stressing that “the crisis is deepening, and the situation is developing in an unfavorable direction.”
In the same context, foreign media reported that the problems began when the United States, the organization’s largest donor, announced its withdrawal from the 31st session of the United Nations.
