The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Tuesday the suspension of all trade activities, exchanges and financial transactions with Iran until further notice.
The Director of Strategic Communications at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Afra Al Hamli, said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency that “the United Arab Emirates denies all allegations regarding the status of its economic relationship with the Islamic Republic of Iran, and reaffirms its firm commitment to dialogue, cooperation and regional integration, as essential means to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region.”
She explained that “in light of the regional escalation that has undermined regional and international peace and security, all activities, trade exchanges and financial transactions with Iran have been suspended until further notice.”
She stressed that the UAE “remains firmly committed to safeguarding the integrity of the international financial system, in line with international law and the highest global standards.”
This move comes after the UAE announced that its air defenses had detected two ballistic missiles coming from Iran towards the country, with the first falling outside its territorial waters, while the second fell inside its territorial waters.
Days earlier, the UAE announced that its oil tankers had been attacked by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, warning of military escalation against it by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces.
