The State of Law coalition insists on Qasim Atta for the Interior Ministry... Abdul Hadi - Finalizing the appointment of nine ministers depends on consensusInformation/Baghdad..
On Saturday, Coordination Framework member Uday Abdul-Hadi confirmed that there is near-unanimity within the State of Law Coalition to support Lieutenant General Qasim Atta as a candidate for the Ministry of Interior portfolio, noting that the coming period will determine the path of consensus regarding the Interior Ministry and eight other ministerial portfolios.

Abdul-Hadi explained in his interview with Al-Maalouma that “there is almost a consensus within the State of Law Coalition to support Lieutenant General Qasim Atta as a candidate for the Ministry of Interior portfolio, and the coalition has not backed down from this choice despite other names being put forward in the media, but direct meetings confirm the existence of clear support for Atta.”

He added that “the Ministry of Interior portfolio, along with eight other portfolios, including Defense, Planning, Culture, Labor and Social Affairs, is still being run by an acting minister in Ali al-Zaidi’s government,” indicating that “comprehensive agreement on the names has not yet been achieved, and therefore there is no final agreement on the date for holding a session of the House of Representatives to vote on the candidates.”

He pointed out that “all expectations indicate that the issue of ministerial portfolios may be resolved during next October, but the delay in completing the cabinet will have negative repercussions, especially on the level of implementing the government program in light of the severe financial and economic crisis.”

Abdul-Hadi pointed out that “proceeding with a decisive vote on the nine ministerial portfolios requires a comprehensive political consensus, which makes the coming period crucial in determining the date of the vote and the mechanism for approving the candidates.”
