Shafaq News/ The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan confirmed, on Monday, its adherence to Barham Salih for the position of President of the Republic of Iraq, indicating that he will present his papers as a candidate for the position.
The representative of the Union, Suzan Mansour, told Shafaq News Agency, “Barham Salih is the only candidate for the position of President of the Republic and obtaining a second term, and the National Union is sticking to Salih to obtain this position.”
And she added, “Saleh will present his official papers to the parliament’s presidency, as the only candidate for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan for the post of President of the Republic.”
Today, Monday, the Presidency of the House of Representatives officially announced the opening of the nomination for the post of President of the Republic, noting that the election of the President of the Republic will take place no later than the end of February 8.
The presidency said in a statement published on the official website of the Council and seen by Shafak News Agency, “The House of Representatives announces the opening of the nomination for the position of President of the Republic. Those who wish to nominate who meet the conditions must submit their written applications accompanied by official documents that prove the availability of these conditions in them, along with their CVs, to the presidency of the Council.” Representatives.”
Earlier today, the leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Ghiath Al-Sorji, revealed that there was an agreement with the Kurdistan Democratic Party regarding the position of the presidency of the Republic of Iraq, pointing to the Democrat’s refusal to take over the presidency for “Barham Salih” for a second term.
Al-Sorji told Shafaq News Agency, “So far, there has not been a final agreement with the Kurdistan Democratic Party, regarding the candidate for the presidency of the republic for the next stage,” explaining, “We have an agreement with the Democrat that the position of the presidency is ours, and they did not present us with any candidate for this position.” Not at all in the last period.”
And he indicated that “the dispute between the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party is not over the position of the presidency, but over the candidate for this position.
