The Prime Minister stresses the importance of attracting foreign capital to support economic stabilityPrime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani stressed today, Saturday, the importance of attracting foreign capital to support the stability of the economy, while pointing out that the value of Arab and foreign investments in Iraq reached (100) billion dollars in the volume of licenses and companies, as the Prime Minister’s media office stated in a statement, “Under the patronage and presence of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, a celebration of the Day of Partnerships between the International Finance Corporation/IFC and Iraq was held in the capital, Baghdad, today, and the 20th anniversary of the presence of the institution and its partnerships with Iraqi sectors.”

The ceremony also witnessed the signing of a number of investment and development contracts with the private and public sectors.

In his speech at the ceremony, the Prime Minister also highlighted “the importance of the partnership with the International Finance Corporation, given the distinguished capabilities of the private sector, which has demonstrated an effective presence in implementing reconstruction and development projects and has been able to withstand various forms of bureaucracy, corruption, and security challenges.”

He explained that “the government measures that aimed to improve the business environment clearly led to attracting international companies to work and invest in Iraq, and the value of Arab and foreign investments reached (100) billion dollars in the volume of licenses and companies that have already begun implementing the investment.”

He also pointed out that “attracting foreign capital has contributed to supporting the stability of the Iraqi economy and has encouraged other international financial institutions, including German, Italian, French, British, and Chinese institutions, to contribute to financing a significant number of development projects, in addition to providing legal and administrative frameworks and removing routine obstacles, which creates more job opportunities.”

The statement noted that “during the ceremony, the following contracts were signed in partnership and financing with the IFC: a contract to invest in associated gas and develop Umm Qasr Port facilities with Basra Gas Company, worth $500 million; a contract to finance and expand cement and lubricating oil production with Al-Muhaidib Group, worth $250 million; and a contract to finance container handling equipment and the storage yard at Umm Qasr Port with Al-Lorraine Investment Company, worth $125 million.”

He explained that “the contract for the first phase of the green residential real estate development project in Sulaymaniyah was also signed with Hiwa Rauf Investment Company for $65 million, in addition to signing a financing contract for a credit line to finance international trade with the Bank of Baghdad for $10 million, an investment partnership contract to establish sustainable agricultural and industrial projects with Sama Al-Manar/Tiriaki Agro for $120 million, a partnership contract to establish a teaching hospital for $250 million with Rabban Al-Safina Companies, and a partnership contract with Al-Ula Company for Financing Small and Medium Enterprises for advisory services and developing investment attraction.”
