Shafaq News/ The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, met with the US Secretary of State, Mr. Marco Rubio, this Saturday afternoon, as part of his agenda at the Munich Security Conference.
The presidency of the region said in a statement received by Shafak News Agency that during the meeting, the strategic partnership between the United States, Iraq and the Kurdistan Region was discussed, and the importance of continuing joint cooperation in various fields.
The two sides also discussed the security situation, the dangers of terrorism, and ways to confront the threats of ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
President Barzani expressed his appreciation for the United States’ continued support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, particularly in efforts to combat terrorism and promote security and stability.
He also stressed the importance of continuing joint cooperation with the United States in these areas.
President Nechirvan Barzani extended an official invitation to the US Secretary of State to attend the opening ceremony of the new US Consulate General building in Erbil, which Secretary Marco Rubio welcomed and expressed his happiness to participate in the occasion.
For his part, Secretary of State Marco Rubio affirmed the United States’ commitment to continuing its support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region as a strategic partner, noting the importance of continuing security and military cooperation to confront common challenges and enhance economic development and progress.
The two sides also discussed the latest developments in the region, focusing on the situation in Syria and the conditions of the Kurds there, as issues of common interest.
