Shafaq News/ The New Generation bloc pledged, on Tuesday, to withdraw its candidate for the presidency of the republic and support the candidates of the Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, according to one condition.
The deputy of the bloc, Omid Muhammad, told Shafaq News Agency, “The New Generation Movement and an Alliance for the People have a candidate for the position of President of the Republic, Rebwar Ur Rahman,” noting that “the latter is among the competing candidates for the position of President of the Republic.”
He added that “the New Generation Movement does not have any negotiations with the political blocs,” noting that “the movement presented a reform project for the Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.”
And Muhammad continued, “Any candidate from the two parties adopts the points of the reform project, most of which belong to the Iraqi citizen in the region in central and southern Iraq. As a movement, we will withdraw our candidate from the competition and support their candidate.”
The Iraqi parliament decided, on Sunday, to open the nomination for the post of President of the Republic for one time only and not to renew it.
The House of Representatives voted on Saturday to open the door for candidacy for the position of President of the Republic after the Federal Supreme Court (the highest judicial authority in Iraq) ruled that the re-election of the presidency was unconstitutional.
