The Ministry of Defense said in a statement that the airbase received the second batch of American Bell 505 aircraft, which includes eight modern aircraft, in implementation of the directives of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces aimed at supporting and developing the capabilities of the Iraqi Armed Forces in all its branches.
She explained that “this acquisition comes as part of the Ministry of Defense’s plan to modernize military aviation systems and enhance air training and combat capabilities, in line with the requirements of the missions assigned to Iraqi Army pilots.”

The Bell 505 helicopter is widely used for training missions, personal and VIP transportation, sightseeing services, and law enforcement applications.
Iraq is among the countries operating these helicopters, with the Iraqi Army Aviation Command receiving seven of these helicopters in July 2024, as part of a contract to purchase 15.
