Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein discussed with the new head of the UNAMI mission in Iraq, the UN Special Representative, Mohammed Al-Hassan, cooperation regarding the procedures for gradually ending the work of the UNAMI mission.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement: “Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein received the new head of the UNAMI mission in Iraq and expressed Iraq’s readiness to provide all forms of support to facilitate his work.”
She added: “During the meeting, the nature of the relationship between Iraq and the international organization was discussed, and thanks were expressed for the efforts made by the UNAMI mission in supporting Iraq over the past years. The minister also stressed the importance of preserving the historical relationship between Iraq and the United Nations and its agencies operating in the country.”
The side also discussed, according to the statement, ways to enhance cooperation and coordination with the Iraqi authorities regarding the procedures for gradually ending the work of the UNAMI mission, while stressing Iraq’s readiness to provide the necessary facilities in this regard.
Al-Hassan stressed his determination to make every effort to facilitate the safe and gradual transition of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq.
