The media office of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region expressed its regret on Sunday that the report published by the Financial Times did not adhere to professional accuracy and objectivity in conveying the statements of the Prime Minister of the Region, Masrour Barzani, “as they were stated verbatim.”
In a statement clarifying the matter, the office said that the report’s author “deliberately inserted personal conclusions and interpretations that overshadowed the actual contents stated.”
According to the statement, in the interest of transparency and to avoid any confusion, the office republished the most prominent “accurate” statements made by the Prime Minister to the newspaper, which are as follows:
The withdrawal of US and international coalition forces from Iraq comes at a very sensitive time.
▪️ The Kurdistan Region has been subjected to more than a thousand missile attacks and drone strikes.
Leaving the Kurdistan region exposed without providing any defense systems to protect it is a cause for concern.
▪️ The continued state of security instability in Iraq poses a clear threat to the foundations of the federal system.
▪️ We cherish our friendship and close alliance with the United States of America, and at the same time we are keen to build balanced and good neighborly relations with all countries in the region, including the Islamic Republic of Iran.
▪️ We are conducting ongoing dialogues and communications with officials in the Islamic Republic of Iran, and we have repeatedly reaffirmed that the Kurdistan Region is not a party to any war or conflict, and distances itself from being a launching pad for threatening the security of any party.
▪️ The presence of Iranian opposition forces in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region is not a recent phenomenon, but rather an extension of many years whose roots go back to the era of the previous regime.
▪️ We express our full support for the efforts of the Federal Prime Minister (Ali al-Zaidi) in his endeavors to combat corruption, disarm militias, and resolve outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad based on constitutional frameworks.
▪️ We affirm our complete readiness to dedicate all our capabilities to supporting the federal government in maximizing public revenues and overcoming any obstacles and challenges it faces.
▪️ Efforts and discussions are moving forward towards reactivating the Kurdistan Parliament and forming the new cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government.
