Kamal Kirkuki, a member of the political bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and head of its relations office, confirmed on Sunday that his party is ready to activate the Kurdistan Parliament “without any preconditions,” noting the party’s openness to all initiatives that serve the interest of activating the legislative institution and forming the new government cabinet.
Kirkuki said in a press conference attended by Shafaq News Agency that “the Kurdistan Democratic Party proudly welcomes any efforts and endeavors aimed at activating the Kurdistan Parliament and forming the new government,” noting that his party “has always shown great flexibility in dealing with this issue.”
In his comments on the initiative put forward by the head of the Kurdistan Socialist Democratic Party, Muhammad Haji Mahmoud, calling for the activation of parliament to be the first step for political forces, Kirkuki affirmed that “the Kurdistan Democratic Party welcomes this step,” considering it a correct path to end the state of stagnation.
Kirkuki added that “the people of Kurdistan gave their confidence to the representatives of Parliament through the ballot boxes, and it has become necessary for the political forces to bear their legal and political responsibilities to reactivate this legislative institution,” stressing that “the Kurdistan Democratic Party has never closed the doors of dialogue, and they are open to everyone.”
Kirkuki concluded his statement by pointing to the party’s political weight, saying: “We must not forget that the Kurdistan Democratic Party has the largest bloc in the Kurdistan Parliament, and it is the party concerned with the decision to form the next cabinet of the regional government.”
