Former MP and minister Wael Abdul Latif accused prominent Iraqi political figures on Wednesday of receiving money from Kuwait in exchange for relinquishing Iraqi sovereignty over the Khor Abdullah dispute. He warned that these figures are now vulnerable to blackmail due to photographic documents in Kuwait’s possession.
Abdul Latif told Al-Maalouma, “The Kuwaiti government documented the moments when money was handed over to some Iraqi figures during their visits to Kuwait during that period, and today it is using those recordings as a means of pressure and blackmail.”
He added, “The names of those involved in this deal are well-known. They are the same people who visited Kuwait and contributed to the signing of the Khor Abdullah Agreement, and who are now moving to cover up their suspicious past.”
Abdul Latif held “the president and prime minister fully responsible for the concessions in this matter,” demanding “a transparent and comprehensive investigation to uncover all those involved in this crime against Iraqi sovereignty.”
Earlier, the head of the parliamentary legal committee, Mohammed Anouz, confirmed that relinquishing the Khor Abdullah port would destroy Iraq’s interests, pointing out that this issue represents a strategic threat to the country’s economic and sovereign security.
