The judiciary issues a 7-year prison sentence and a huge fine against MP Alia NassifThe Iraqi judiciary issued a ruling on Wednesday sentencing MP Alia Nassif to seven years in prison, after convicting her of cases related to money laundering and illicit enrichment.

The Federal Integrity Commission announced in an official statement the issuance of a seven-year prison sentence against MP (Alia Nassif Jassim) for the crime of illicit enrichment, and obligating her to return more than (61) billion dinars, the value of the illicit enrichment, and the financial fine that is equivalent to that value.

The Commission indicated that the Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court issued a judgment in absentia sentencing MP (Alia Nassif Jassim) to seven years imprisonment, based on the provisions of Article (19/Second) of the Integrity and Illicit Gains Law No. (30 of 2011) amended, for the crime of illicit gain, while it decided to obligate the convicted person to return the value of the illicit gain amounting to (14,239,590,000) fourteen billion two hundred and thirty-nine million Iraqi dinars, and (12,442,500) twelve million four hundred and forty-two thousand five hundred US dollars, in addition to imposing a financial fine on her equivalent to the value of the illicit gain; according to the provisions of Article (19/Fourth) of the Commission Law.

The commission added that the court issued another ruling of severe imprisonment for a period of three years against the convicted woman for the crime of concealing information in the financial disclosure form, in accordance with the provisions of Article (19/Fifth) of the Commission Law, while it decided to apply the most severe penalty against her, in addition to upholding the seizure of her movable and immovable assets, noting that the ruling decision included giving the Federal Integrity Commission the right to claim compensation for damages, after the ruling decision becomes final.
