Shafaq News/ On Wednesday, the Finance Committee of the Iraqi Parliament revealed details hosted by Finance Minister Taif Sami, at the same time sending a message to the Kurdistan Regional Government regarding the salaries of its employees.
Committee member Yousef Al-Kalabi told Shafaq News Agency, “Today, the Parliamentary Finance Committee hosted the Minister of Finance, Taif Sami, the Director-General of the Customs Authority, and the Director-General of the General Authority for Taxes to discuss the automation of the financial system for taxes and customs duties, maximizing non-oil revenues, and the issue of localizing employee salaries in the Kurdistan Region.”
He added, “The Finance Committee emphasized in the hosting the importance of automating the system and exchanging data between the Customs Authority and other institutions, in addition to the procedures and formulas used in data auditing and electronic payment,” noting that “the Committee requested that it be provided with the table for tax exemption.”
Al-Kalabi pointed out that “the committee discussed, during its hosting of the Minister of Finance, the issue of financing and settling the salaries of employees in the Kurdistan Region,” explaining that “the decision of the Federal Court was clear in this regard.”
He stressed that the Parliamentary Finance Committee “requests the regional government to expedite the localization of employees’ salaries, in order to receive their salaries like all Iraqi employees.”
He concluded by saying, “The decision of the Federal Court is clear, and the letter of the Ministry of Finance is also clear,” stressing that “the salaries of employees in the Kurdistan Region for the month of February will be paid, but the salaries for the month of March cannot be paid by the Ministry of Finance because it will be legally responsible before the Iraqi prosecution and judiciary, in If salaries are not localized.”
The day before yesterday, Monday, the Federal Ministry of Finance announced the launch of funding for the Kurdistan Region’s salaries for the month of February.
But the Ministry of Finance and Economy of the Kurdistan Regional Government said yesterday, Tuesday, that the federal government’s measures deprived the region’s employees of their salaries for the month of February.
The ministry explained in a statement that “the Ministry of Finance in the federal government funded only 560 billion and 217 million dinars, which is equivalent to only (59%) of the total salaries of the region’s employees, depriving (41%) of the employees of their salaries, and even the amount that was decided to finance did not reach the Ministry.” Finance in the Kurdistan Region.
