The Iraqi Parliament’s Security and Defense Committee announced on Saturday that it had completed the final draft of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) bill and submitted it to the parliament’s presidency.
Committee member Mohammed Al-Shammari told Shafaq News Agency, “Members of the House of Representatives have collected signatures demanding that the Parliament Presidency include the draft law on the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) on the agenda of the next session.”
According to Al-Shammari, there are external interventions attempting to obstruct the work of the House of Representatives and the vote on the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) law. He emphasized that these interventions “do not hinder the resolve of the Iraqi people’s representatives” to vote on the PMF law and other laws.
A source within the Coordination Framework previously confirmed that passage of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) law hinges on consensus among “hesitant” political forces, amid parliamentary demands for the parliament presidency to impose sanctions on MPs who fail to attend this week’s sessions.
The Iraqi Parliament’s media office had previously announced the resumption of parliamentary sessions mid-week with a three-day agenda (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday), but the agenda did not include the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) law.
The Iraqi parliament has been paralyzed since its August 5, 2025, session, during which a public dispute erupted between Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani and his deputy, Mohsen al-Mandalawi, over the right to chair the session. This led to the suspension of subsequent sessions to discuss key laws, including the Popular Mobilization Forces law, amidst the preoccupation of various blocs with election campaigns.
