The Iraqi Minister of Electricity officially inaugurates the electrical interconnection line with JordanShafaq News/ Today, Saturday, the Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, inaugurated the “Iraqi-Jordanian” electrical interconnection in its first phase, for the benefit of the Rutba district in Anbar Governorate, west of the country.

The minister had arrived earlier today at the border between the two countries in preparation for operating this line.

A source in the Ministry of Electricity told Shafaq News Agency, “The Minister of Electricity, accompanied by a number of ministerial teams and general directors of electricity transmission and distribution companies, officially occupied what is known as the Risha line to transport electricity from Jordan to Iraq, specifically the Rutba district.”

He added, “The line was operated with a capacity of 50 megawatts as an initial stage, while its total capacity in the future will reach 500 megawatts when the connection stages are fully completed to cover large areas of Anbar Governorate with electrical current.”

For his part, the Minister of Electricity said during a press conference attended by Shafaq News Agency, that completing the Jordanian electricity connection paves the way for us to move to the second phase through the Gulf connection to Basra Governorate and then the Saudi connection.

He added that our cadres made a great effort to install fixed and mobile stations and lines to connect the two countries, adding: This project is considered the first phase of the Jordanian connection, and the capacity of the other phase will reach 350 megawatts.

The minister continued by saying: This is one of the projects that we promised the citizens, and in the coming months we will begin operating the electrical interconnection with the Gulf Interconnection Authority to deliver electricity to Basra Governorate, and then we will conclude it with the Saudi interconnection.

The Director General of the Jordanian National Electricity Company, Amjad Al-Rawashdeh, announced on Thursday that the Jordanian-Iraqi electrical interconnection line will enter service today, Saturday.

The Jordanian News Agency (Petra) quoted Al-Rawashdeh as saying: The line will be shared between the Jordanian Al-Risha electrical stations and the Iraqi Al-Rutba station, at a voltage of 132 kilovolts, to feed the loads of the Al-Rutba area near the border with Jordan.

On February 11, 2024, in the capital, Amman, Iraq and Jordan signed a document to supply the Iraqi side with electrical energy with a capacity of 40 megawatts in the first phase, as both parties considered the contract to be part of a more comprehensive Arab plan for the joint Arab energy market in the future.

The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced the completion of operation of the Iraqi-Jordanian electric line, confirming that the date for the line to enter service will be Saturday the 30th of this month.

She added that the line will be shared between the Jordanian Al-Risha Electrical Station and the Iraqi Al-Rutba Station, with a voltage of 132 kilovolts to feed the loads of the Al-Rutba area near the border with Jordan.
