On Thursday, the Supreme Judicial Council expressed its rejection of having its name included in the discussions of political parties and forces regarding the appointment of the next Speaker of Parliament and Prime Minister, while calling for respect for the constitutional timelines in the formation of the legislative and executive authorities.

This came during the 15th session of the Supreme Judicial Council, chaired by the President of the Federal Court of Cassation, Judge Faiq Zaidan, according to a statement issued by the Council.

According to the statement, the Speaker of the Council reviewed “the role of the judiciary in conducting the elections on their constitutional date,” reiterating his previous call to political parties and forces to “respect the constitutional timelines in forming the legislative and executive authorities.”

He also stressed his “rejection of involving the judiciary, as an institution or as individuals, in the deliberations concerning the appointment of the heads of the legislative and executive authorities, and in particular the appointment of the next Prime Minister,” noting that “there is no endorsement, support or opinion regarding any judicial, executive or political figure to assume this position, as it is a matter specific to political parties and has nothing to do with the judiciary.”
